Community,
Vocational and Youth Committee news
Local
Collections – We had thanks from Keech Cottage Children’s Hospice Area Fund
Coordinator for our donation to their event on 18th/19th December. It seems it was oversubscribed for collection
volunteers, but thanked all for their support.
Bedford
Cerebral Palsy – Luke Newman, who has visited before, will visit us in February
and give us an update on their work and progress.
FANY – A “thank
you” from Alex was received and she now has invitations to talk to several
other clubs in our District. (Hopefully
from our Facebook posts.)
Biggleswade
Swimming Club advertising board – Not the Olympic speed response we expected
after donating money to repair their kit……..we live in hope that one day they
will update with our new advert.
Social Media –
Facebook continues with weekly updates.
Our community email contact point is still
Rotary4Biggleswade@outlook.com sadly never been contacted
YOUTH Interact Ivel
Club are the lead club in supporting a club at Stratton School and are looking
for volunteers to visit weekly and encourage the youngsters in their Rotary
objectives. Mary Whitehouse is the
contact point. Wheelchair
Challenge – 3 wheelchairs have been purchased for the Athletics Club. Photographic
Competition programme – we have visited the schools and have spoken to about
four class groups. Since they are all in
the 9yr group there is a suggestion we give all participants a “prize”, a bit
of subliminal exposure for Rotary with parents.
Next update will be in January when all the kids have mastered their
cameras on their iphone Christmas presents.
Event is open until 23rd March. Youth Speaks –
scheduled for 21st/22nd February (Samuel Whitbread) details to follow. RYLA Grafham
Water – venue is still open to us but alternatives in 1260 have not yet been
agreed since Henlow Camp was closed to the public. Schools Fun
Day – scheduled for June. Global
Scholars – There are four Global Scholars in our District/area and we are
trying to find a suitable time slot for one to visit and talk about their
experiences. The Combined Tri Club programme progresses with the next meeting
on 29th January in Ickwell.
Minor Sports
has started and the first event is at The Guinea, Moggerhanger on 15th January
(see Luke for details). 5th Tuesday ComVoc – reserved the January period for
their “night out”. This year, due to
popular demand, we will be Dog Racing again at Henlow. Their date programme has not been published
but they race on Thur/Fri/Sat. Provisionally
30th January, 2018 is our target date.
ComVoc Funds –
The Club’s ComVoc funds are in a very healthy state. We need more suggestions for our help and
support.
